The AGILE project, funded by the European Commission, and focusing on the growing field of the Internet of Things has an Italian coordinator: CREATE-NET, an Ict research center based in Trento. AGILE (Adaptive Gateways for Diverse Multiple Environments) is a project funded by the European Commission within the Horizon 2020 ICT30 Program (“Internet of Things and Platforms for Connected Smart Objects”).

Italian technical leaders

CREATE-NET has been appointed project coordinator and technical leader of AGILE: it will manage the consortium and define technical and architectural specifications of the IoT Gateway platform. In addition, the organization supports the project dissemination and the related training activities and will monitor the Open Call process to invite startups and SMEs to use the project outcomes for building innovative IoT solutions.

Major players in IoT research

“This achievement capitalizes on our skills and all investments done in the latest years by our Research Center in IoT research. This allowed us to position ourselves as one of the main players in the IoT research domain at European level” says Fabio Antonelli, Open IoT Research Area Head, CREATE-NET.

“The consortium includes another Italian partner, Eurotech, which is one of the main industrial players operating in the IoT field”. Significant opportunities will be generated by transferring project results into different target markets.

The AGILE project

The total funding amounts to 6.8 billion Euro over 3 years and includes a consortium of 17 international organizations, including the Italian CREATE-NET and Eurotech SPA.

AGILE aims to develop the software and hardware required to build modular gateway solutions for managing the devices and data in IoT solutions. It will support the local management of devices, data, app development and runtime and include security features that allow users to share data in a trusted way.

The AGILE project will also feature the integration of an IoT apps Marketplace to help facilitate a diverse ecosystem of extensions and plugins. The AGILE project will leverage on the skills, expertise and technology of CREATE-NET to create a sustainable community supporting the AGILE technology with the goal of creating a diverse ecosystem of large commercial tech companies, small start-ups, research institutions and individuals that develop innovative solutions using the AGILE technology.
