Dreaming of a thermal bath in Tuscany or dining at a secluded beach in Sardinia? If you need instant gratification and have an agenda that drags on forever and if you are in Milan, the only way is to bring those sweet moments of leisure to you. Gattullo is surely one of the spots in Milan that can satisfy those needs. Go there for their incomparable blueberry pastry in the morning, a sandwich or a rich garnished salad for lunch and a unique selection of aperitifs in the evening.

The famous Italian actors, singers, musicians, journalists, sportsmen and football players who have frequented Gattullo’s in the last fifty years are immortalized in the black and white photos displayed on the wooden walls amongst the bottles.

“I don’t come here for the historical fame of Gattullo’s” says a student from the university nearby, “But the food here is excellent, you won’t find it anywhere else in the city”.

“Prosciutto is sliced right before your eyes if you ask for a sandwich”, says Domenico Gattullo, owner of the famous pastry shop, “If you leave it out for a couple of hours, it loses some of it’s quality”, he explains.

A gentleman in his forties, sitting at one of the tables, devours his salmon canapè  and explains that at Gattullo’s he feels at home, the same way he has felt in the last thirty years, since he was a kid when Domenico’s father was the cook and Domenico’s mother was the cashier, handing out candy to children.

“To cut a long story short, Gattullo’s is well worth  a visit during any stay in Milan”  summarizes a lady with a cup of tea in her hand. Domenico smiles and keeps on slicing the prosciutto.
